A New Wave of the Spirit

As a student for over 50 years of the various moves or waves of the Holy Spirit, I sense another one is about to break out. All the previous waves have benefited the Church with present truth and change. We rejoice at what has happened to bless God’s people and the Church. But I sense the upcoming wave will be the Holy Spirit calling us deeper. As marvelous as the baptism in the Holy Spirit is, with the sign or evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives evidence, it is still just a sign. The question becomes, “What is the significance?” Many have received this gracious gift as a sign but, sadly, it has made very little difference in their personal lives.

The deeper call is to allow the spirit of God in believers to transform them.  Transformation is only by the Holy Spirit. Paul’s struggle was not to provide an experience for the Galatians but to see Christ formed in them (Gal 4:19; cf Rom 8:29; 12:1,2). That is the significance of the baptism in the Holy Spirit. The sign will never satisfy, the significance will answer one’s heart cry. A new wave is upon us.
